东江小馆

Another restaurant review!

The workers at this place make noodles. In your face!

These were supposed to be the specials at this restaurant. I think the left is pork/chive dumplings and xiaolongbao on the right. They were especially awful.

My reaction to the food: miffed, less than pleased. This restaurant = C. The pork and chives were dry, surprising since dumplings are boiled in WATER, and there was no soup in the xiaolongbao. They were even drier than the dumplings, more of a shock since soup is cooked inside with the meat. The watercress I had later was too oily and overpriced.

Watercress fried in oil and garlic. It was more like it was bathed in a pool of oil.

I wasn't full, so I decided to order one more dish: 牛腩馄饨河粉。

The shrimp was undercooked in the wontons, in addition to there being too much cornstarch. When told this, the waitress there said that the wontons were precooked already, and they just heated it up before serving. What was offensive was that they were still undercooked AND that they weren't served fresh, but people wouldn't know this unless they spoke Chinese there. The 4 guys sitting at the table next to me thought the food was good. I thought they couldn't tell the difference between their mouth and ass.

My fortune at the end of dinner- something about physicians. Another sign I should go to med school? Blah.

Hey Jason, I like the face photos you 're doing now. Showing your physical reactions to proximate phenomena...I may rip off your style on my own brog.

I've got a friend who goes to cooking school (Cordon Bleu) here and is from SoCal. She might be able to give some good advice as regards culinary education.
